Janine has worked at the Carers’ Centre in Bath for the past seven years, working to support unpaid carers across Bath and North East Somerset. Prior to this she worked at a national social business, the Ethical Property Company, which she joined after graduating.

This was in many ways something she fell in to, coming across the job on Gumtree! However she had always wanted a career that was delivering social good so it was a natural fit. Her varied roles at Ethical Property enabled her to travel across the UK - including to Bath where she led the team managing and developing Green Park Station for a number of years. It was here she fell in love with the city, and will always have a soft spot for the oft forgotten station with a rich history; hidden spaces (the underground vaults are a maze) and colourful market characters.

Her decision to settle down in Bath prompted her to look for opportunities to work in a role where she could see the direct impact on the community she loves, and she moved to the Carers’ Centre in 2013. Looking for new and innovative ways to support young and adult carers through what is often a very challenging role (especially during Covid) is more than enough motivation to get up for work!

Janine works part time at the Carers’ Centre, spending the rest of her time as full time mum to her three year old daughter. You will normally find them baking, crafting or exploring outside (it can be hard to tell who is having more fun!). Janine joined the Women’s Fund as part of her desire to see impact in her local community - whilst giving small amounts to larger organisations is great, it’s brilliant to be able to give locally and make a real difference in B&NES. Although balancing a three year old and a career has meant she hasn’t been able to be as involved as she’d like, the newsletters are a great way to stay engaged and who knows what 2021 might bring?!
