Meet Marta
Tell us a bit about yourself
I moved to Bath 13 years ago to be closer to work at the time. Initially, I really missed the cultural cauldron of Bristol where I had lived before. However, after getting to know Bath, I eventually fell in love with it and now find a great comfort in coming back home to it.
I live with my two young boys and my partner. My sister and her family are our neighbours, which means the world to me, especially that the rest of my family lives abroad. Over a year ago, after 15 years in the industry, I became a self-employed financial adviser and I’m passionate about making financial advice more relatable and accessible as it is certainly not just for the wealthy. I believe knowledge is power and I strive to make my clients feel empowered and in control of their finances, wherever they may be on their financial journey.
What inspired you to join Bath Women's Fund?
I found out about Bath Women’s Fund thanks to my son and Black Families Education Support Group (previously supported by BWF). I thought it was a brilliant concept and what the current world needs - community and more women with their empathetic outlook making a difference.
What are the issues that you are most passionate about?
Equality, environment, peace and community. I believe the current world needs some version of a revolution and a dramatic change. I sometimes find it all overwhelming but believe that starting small, in my own community is all I can do for now. I also have an enormous faith in young people and I think we must come together to support them as much as we can so they can build the better world.
What would you be most interested in learning about as a Bath Women's Fund member?
I find a big comfort in female communities and often find them very inspirational and supportive. I’m interested in individual stories.
What is your favourite place/thing to do in and around Bath?
At the moment, it must be foraging! It’s my tonic for the soul, to go outside and pick elderberries, blackberries or apples and turn them into some goodness. I’m very lucky to live on the doorstep to some beautiful countryside.
I also can’t go without my weekly Pilates classes at Pilates Quarter - they are a lovely bunch, so very down to earth and welcoming and I can see the great benefit of this form of exercise!
